William Haefeli has a good point

For someone who believes in personal responsibility you spend a lot of time blaming government

Did you know that Herman Cain has his own comic book?

Did you know that it's got the ugliest cover in the history of comics?
What else does this publisher print? Let's see, there's a weirdly grim Joe Biden comic...

...and—oh shit.

Call me wonky, but I like to read scientific studies.

Here's one about links between the Tea Party and anal eroticism. Fascinating!

From the US National Library of MedicineNational Institutes of Health, W.W. Tilden wrote "The psychohistorical roots of the American 'Tea Party' Movement." And what an abstract!

“Extreme resistance to governmental taxation and authority is derived, according to Freud’s theory of anal characterology, from premature and harshly coercive toilet training, in which a child is forced unfairly and against its will to surrender the products of his eliminations (which represent money, among other things, in the unconscious) to parental authority. Among these individuals anal eroticism plays a significant role in the psychogenesis of paranoia and conspiracy theorizing, which may represent a defense mechanism erected against repressed fears of passive submission.”

An extraordinary interview with a Tea Party leader

Patricia Rucker is a Tea Party leader in West Virginia. And she doesn’t think the government should not be involved in health care. Oh, and also? Her husband is a furloughed federal employee. So she gets health care from the government.

As an NPR commenter points out, “one hopes the Ruckers are returning their social security, Medicare, and other monies that may be used for health care. And that our military is turning over their treatment of veterans and those in current service over to the private sector. And that the Centers for Disease Control and the National Institutes of Health be abolished or turned over to the private sector so that maximum profit can be made off of other's misfortune.”

Constitutionally Unsound

Republicans love to make a show of how they carry around the U.S. Constitution in their pocket. That's how much they love it! Which makes this morning's headline jarring:
Yes, the party that espouses financial responsibility is considering defaulting on our nation's debt. (And never mind that Wall Street and the Chamber of Commerce oppose this path.) But this is the really amazing part—that would be a violation of the Constitution. Check it:
United States Constitution: 14th Amendment, Section 4.
The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.

Yoholand: An Alternate Universe Where Imbecility Leads to Stability

Remember when Representative Ted Yoho (Republican, Florida) compared the Tea Party efforts to defund Obamacare to the Civil Rights Movement?

It only takes one with passion — look at Rosa Parks, Lech Walesa, Martin Luther King. People with passion that speak up, they’ll have people follow them because they believe the same way, and smart leadership listens to that.”
Yoho followed that up with this doozy about failure to raise the debt ceiling:
“I think, personally, it would bring stability to the world markets."
That quote earned this headline from Business Insider: "Tea Party Congressman Wins An Award For The Stupidest Thing Said About The Debt Ceiling". But anyway, today comes news that Yoho has made it into the Urban Dictionary!
Yoholand: An alternate universe where the largest economy in the world defaults and global markets are [surprise!] stabilized."

Jerome Corsi redefines logic

Tea Party activist Jerome Corsi is a Tea Party activist. He’s also active on right-wing sites like World Net Daily. And lucky us, he came to Oregon!

While here, Corsi insisted that atheists want to legalize same-sex marriage so that the government could crack down on Christians. Because, logic.
“Our founding fathers knew that if we went this direction, there was no more moral compass and you won’t be able to explain to your children — you’ll have to face the fact that we lost holding the line on one of the most principle issues in the Bible, and that is sex is not about fun. If you want to have fun, read a book, go to a movie. Sex is about the procreation of children. It’s a sacred responsibility that is meant by God to have men and women commit their lifetime to children.”
How can these atheists be stopped? Corsi’s solution is to “shut the government down.” Because, logic!

Tea Partiers = Murderers?

"That's a scandal -- those people are guilty of murder in my opinion. Some of those people they persuade are going to end up dying because they don't have health insurance. For people who do that to other people in the name of some obscure political ideology is one of the grossest violations of our humanity I can think of. This absolutely drives me crazy."
—Senator Angus King (Independent, Maine), on the Republicans who urge uninsured Americans not to sign up for Obamacare.

78% of Americans have their shit together

Or put another way, Gallup finds that 22% of Americans support the Tea Party ... which is an all-time low.

Want to know what happens when the Tea Party runs things?

Oregon has two counties—Josephine and Curry—that have steadfastly refused to meet their budgets by taxing themselves. Things are so bad, that Josephine has one law enforcement officer for the entire county! The New York Times reported this week on how crime has escalated quickly and gun sales are through the roof.

And so the inevitable has occurred. To stop the counties from going bankrupt and sliding back into the Middle Ages, the Oregon legislature is going to bail them out. Which means tax payers in the state are actually riding to the rescue. Yep, liberals from places like Portland, Ashland, and Eugene are saving Tea Partiers ... from themselves.

Yay.
