Texas needs MORE Republicans like Ted Cruz? But it already has them!

Texas is so full of crazy, it’s only a matter of time before it swings back to sanity. Right? Gail Collins has a nice rundown of the recent disgraces of Texas’ Republican politicians—and it doesn’t even include Senator Ted Cruz!

Representative Louie Gohmert angry that John McCain didn’t support the government shutdown, said McCain “supported Al Qaeda” in Syria. (McCain brushed it off, because “if someone has no intelligence, I don’t view it as being a malicious statement.”)

Representative Steve Stockman, accusing the president and House Democrats of “curb-stomping veterans.”

Representative John Culberson crying “Let’s roll!” in the move to shut down the government (and invoking the battle cry against 9/11 terrorists.

Representative Pete Sessions, who summed things up rather neatly with: “We’re not French. We don’t surrender.”

Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst: “I don’t know about you, but Barack Obama ought to be impeached [sic].”

Small-Minded Hall of Shame: Louie Gohmert and his patriotic asparagus

Representative Louie Gohmert (Republican, Texas) is the gift that keeps on giving. My favorite Gohmert moment this year was his exchange with Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. in which the integrity of his asparagus was called into question.

"HE TURN AND CAST ASPERSIONS ON MY ASPARAGUS!"


What got Gohmert so fired up? Here is Holder's statement, from just before this clip begins:

"You don't know what the FBI did. You don't know what the FBI's interaction was with the Russians. You don't know what questions were put to the Russians, whether those questions were responded to. You simply do not know that. And you have characterized the FBI as being not thorough, or taken exception to my characterization of them as being thorough. I know what the FBI did. You cannot know what I know. That is all."

That's Representative Louie Gohmert (Republican, Texas) complaining about the White House closing down threatened U.S. embassies because of terrorism alerts. And yep, Gohmert's one of the same idiots who complained so bitterly about the White House's "failures" at Benghazi.
