Hall of Shame: Ronald Reagan

The year was 1961, and Ronald Reagan concluded a speech by warning of something so dire, liberty was about to become an endangered species. This menace had to be stopped!
“If I don’t do it, one of these days you and I are going to spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it once was like in America when men were free.”

What was the menace? Medicare. Yep, the program that provides aid to the elderly. And Reagan hated it so much, he starred in anti-Medicare infomercials for four years!

One of every 16 people in Oregon sucks.

The Oregonian has a story about how lunatics in Oregon are racing to gun shops to arm themselves against ... themselves. And then on top of it, be sure to get a concealed handgun license. Because you never know when you might need a gun when you're out and about in ONE OF THE SAFEST STATES IN THE NATION.

Addendum: This figure was adjusted from one in 15 to one in 16. Yes! We have fewer assclowns!

Conservatives aren't so different from everyone else.

Sometimes I do a reality check and ask myself, "Are Republicans really so different? Surely they're not just gun-crazed, paranoid, racist survivalists, right?"

Then I voyage across a place like the Patriot Survival Guide, and I realize, "No. They're also venal fear-mongering scum!"

Y'all are some crazy motherfuckers.

From Public Policy Polling, "Republicans More Likely To Subscribe to Government Conspiracy Theories":
Republicans are more likely than Democrats to believe various government-related conspiracy theories.  Overall, 62% of Republicans believe that the Obama Administration is secretly trying to take everyone’s guns away; just 14% of Democrats believe the same. One in four Americans say that President Obama is secretly trying to figure out a way to stay in office beyond 2017 – including almost half of Republicans (44%). And 42% of Republicans think that Muslims are covertly implementing Sharia Law in American court systems.
Was there ANY good news? Kind of!

And only 3% of those polled believe that the US has been conspiring with aliens for technology advancements.

Sam Johnson is the Small Mind of the Day ("fear-mongering" division)

"Boy, I'll tell you. I hate to see a dictatorship come into this country, but it sure looks like that's what's happening with health care."
—Rep. Sam Johnson (Republican, Texas)
