Are Republican politicians and media figures sexist, age-ist
scum? Take former Mitt Romney strategist Stuart Stevens. He’s also worked for“Albanian Prime Minister
Sali Berisha and Congolese President Joseph Kabila. If you’re not familiar with
them, they are “authoritarian
figures who have alarmed human rights groups and, at times, the U.S. State
Department.”
(Stevens himself describes his work as “an outlet for my violent tendencies.”)
Stevens is in a New York Times article lambasting Hillary
Clinton’s age. See, she "seems like she’s been around since the 70’s." (Never
mind that the same could be said of him!)
Then there’s Mitch McConnell. The Republican senator is five
years OLDER than Clinton, but he described her potential presidential campaign
as“a
rerun of 'The Golden Girls'.”
But for sheer class, nobody outdid Rush Limbaugh. He asked whether
the American people “want to vote for somebody, a woman, and actually watch a
woman get older before their eyes on a daily basis?”
