Your Sexist, Age-ist Jerks of the Day
Are Republican politicians and media figures sexist, age-ist
scum? Take former Mitt Romney strategist Stuart Stevens. He’s also worked for“Albanian Prime Minister
Sali Berisha and Congolese President Joseph Kabila. If you’re not familiar with
them, they are “authoritarian
figures who have alarmed human rights groups and, at times, the U.S. State
Department.”
(Stevens himself describes his work as “an outlet for my violent tendencies.”)
Stevens is in a New York Times article lambasting Hillary
Clinton’s age. See, she "seems like she’s been around since the 70’s." (Never
mind that the same could be said of him!)
Then there’s Mitch McConnell. The Republican senator is five
years OLDER than Clinton, but he described her potential presidential campaign
as“a
rerun of 'The Golden Girls'.”
But for sheer class, nobody outdid Rush Limbaugh. He asked whether
the American people “want to vote for somebody, a woman, and actually watch a
woman get older before their eyes on a daily basis?”

You know what? Fuck those guys.
From TPM:
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Republican-Kentucky) and Minority Whip John Cornyn (Republican-Texas) sent letters warning six professional sports leagues not to provide the Obama administration any assistance in promoting Obamacare.
The letters, dated June 27, warn the chiefs of the National Football League, Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association, National Hockey League, Professional Golf Association and NASCAR that partnering with the administration to publicize the benefits of the health care law would damage their reputations.
The letter reads, “Given the divisiveness and persistent unpopularity of this bill, it is difficult to understand why an organization like yours would risk damaging its inclusive and apolitical brand by lending its name to its promotion.”
Yes, this "unpopular" bill is supported by a re-elected president and the Supreme Court. *facepalm*

What he said.

“Forget the politicians. The politicians are put there to
give you the idea you have freedom of choice. You don't. You have no choice.
You have owners. They own you. They own everything. They own all the important
land, they own and control the corporations that've long since bought and paid
for, the senate, the congress, the state houses, the city halls, they got the
judges in their back pocket, and they own all the big media companies so they
control just about all of the news and the information you get to hear. They
got you by the balls. They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying to get
what they want. Well, we know what they want. They want more for themselves and
less for everybody else. But I'll tell you what they don't want. They don't
want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don't want
well informed, well educated people capable of critical thinking. They're not
interested in that. That doesn't help them.”

Thinking about our fellow creatures
"Like humans, some whales live in families, play in the
moonlight, talk to one another, and care for one another in time of trouble. We
humans can feel a bond there. But is it enough simply to respect whales as
whales? Instead of wondering whether they can reason, or worry, or think ahead
as we humans can, perhaps we should be content to admire them for their unique
minds and bodies."

Miss Utah just went into vapor-lock
Responding to a question about equal opportunity, Marissa Powell's frontal lobes melted down.
"I think we can relate this back to education and how we are
continuing to try to strive to (pause) figure out how to create jobs right now.
That is the biggest problem and I think, especially the men, are um, seen as
the leaders of this and so we need to try and figure out how to create
education better so we can solve this problem."
Totally!
Totally!
